Gripe of the Week: Nibelung
by Sunfyre on Mar.30, 2010, under Gripe of the Week
It appears that conjured pets do not receive the ICC raid buff. This means that I’m sure shortly gear with the 30% raid buff will surpass the damage of the Val’kyr.
Quick Data: Heroic Nibelung
by Sunfyre on Mar.09, 2010, under Gear Discussion
I was fortunate enough to receive [Nibelung] tonight, and I wanted to give a quick update on the Val’kyr proc.
The Val’kyr Guardian, summoned by the nonheroic Nibelung, averages about 1750 damage or so. (1700-1900 damage before resists).
The Val’kyr Protector, summoned by the heroic version, averages about 1950-1960 damage. (2000-2200 damage before resists).
A small buff to the proc, but a buff none the less.
Nibelung nerfed?
by Sunfyre on Feb.02, 2010, under General
After speaking to multiple people of multiple classes, it appears Blizzard nerfed the proc rate of [Nibelung]. I may go back to my MH/OH combination now.
UPDATE: It appears Blizzard did apply a “stealth nerf” to Nibelung. From what I’ve been able to gather, it only procs on direct damage dealing spells now, and no other abilities. This means it no longer procs on [Languish], [Earth And Moon], [Glyph of Starfall], etc. It apparently does not proc on [Starfall] anymore either.
UPDATE: Ghostcrawler responded to a question regarding Nibelung’s proc rate here, stating they did not intend to change the proc rate of Nibelung in 3.3.2. Hopefully they’ll revert whatever happened to it.
UPDATE: Bornakk posts that a hotfix to Nibelung is in the works, which will increase it’s proc chance to 2% and make it heal itself for 25% of the damage done it’s total health every time it casts. Still not overtly impressive, and still doesn’t address why there was a change to the proc mechanic.
UPDATE: Bornakk clarifies here about the change to the proc rate, and confirms it was done intentionally to prevent other abilities from causing a proc. He still calls it a buff, however when we go to 3%-4% proc chance to 2%, I don’t see that as a buff.
City of Angels

I too finally picked up [Nibelung]. There’s been a flurry of activity throughout the forums and DPS blogosphere about the stats for the Nibelung, so I won’t bore you too much. I’ll try to touch on the main moonkin items:
- Many abilities proc Nibelung. These include [Glyph of Starfall], [Earth And Moon], and [Languish]. That means when Lunar Eclipse is active, you effectively have quadrupled your proc-rate for the Val’kyrs. (The proc rate is 1%. This assumes you have 4pc T10).
- The val’kyrs currently do not enjoy the same AoE avoidance as hunter pets, treants, etc. However, it seems just like pets, there are some fights in which they are immune to certain AoE damage. (Festergut being an example).
- [Glyph of Starfall] may be a wise replacement for [Glyph of Insect Swarm]. I’m currently testing it out. Starfall is great at forcing the Nibelung to proc.
- After about 7 minutes on a heroic training dummy, (about 3 million damage worth), the Val’kyrs were 8.2% of my damage. My treants were about 3.6%.
There are some fights the Val’kyr get absolutely raped, so it’s handy to have a good MH/OH combination ready. Blood Queen Lana’thel is one of those fights.
