Moonkin Leveling: Talent Suggestions

One of the hardest decisions as you’re leveling up is often where to spend those precious talents. I’m going to start going into details at level 40, the first level at which you can actually become a moonkin. Before level 40, you’ll want to build into these talents.

There are a few different ways to play your moonkin as you level up. Some prefer to [Entangling Roots] their target and nuke from afar, where others prefer to utilize their armor and tank the mob up close. This talent guide will attempt to shoot the middle and give you flexibility for both. Obviously, as you progress in levels between each talent build, you’ll want to fill in from one to achieve the next.

Level 40
Welcome to moonkin! This is the talent build I suggest for level 40. This also includes your glyphs.

This build allows you to do the tanking method, or rooting method quite well. [Brambles] will boost both your thorns damage if you tank the mob, as well as boost your [Entangling Roots] damage should you prefer to keep them far away. The [Glyph of Wrath] is great if you’re going to try to damage the mob while it’s hitting you, and the [Glyph of Entangling Roots] should give you more time to nuke it from afar before you have to re-root.

By now you should have either method you prefer down pat, either by rooting, or by tanking. The tanking method is going to get a little bit easier now that you’re level 50, as you have [Owlkin Frenzy]. This ability is extremely valuable, and will help your mana regeneration as well. I have placed less important once [Nature's Grace] because your critical strike rating simply isn’t high enough here to make the talent points more valuable then other talents you can take. You’re eligible for a second minor glyph. The [Glyph of Aquatic Form] is probably your best bet, to speed you up should you need to swim anywhere for your quests.

Trees, trees, trees!
By the time you reach level 60, you will have three faithful companions who will come out and play every 3 minutes! Treants ([Force of Nature]) are an excellent tool which can do a lot of damage on some of those ‘group’ type quests you may see. Your three points in [Brambles] will help them out considerably as well. One thing to remember from this point on regarding Treants: They benefit from any group buffs you receive while they’re currently active. It’s handy to drop treants BEFORE a shaman bloodlusts, and having a warrior battle shout immediately after they’re dropped will boost them as well. Treants can have a life of their own, so make sure you’re familiar with your pet bar.

Level 70
Talent Build

At level 70, you have all of the core moonkin talents. There are other talents which are nice to have, and definately will be essential at 80, but it’s my personal opinion your best option is to start driving towards  [Omen Of Clarity]. [Omen Of Clarity] is going to be extremely useful for you when it comes to mana conservation/regeneration, and should definately speed up time between pulls. Just wait until you start getting free [Hurricane] casts!

Level 79
Talent Build

You’re almost to 80! You still want to push towards [Omen Of Clarity], so as you’re leveling from 70-79, the order I suggest you pick up these additional talents are:

[Natural Shapeshifter] (You need to finish this off to unlock the tier 3 abilities)
[Omen Of Clarity]
[Intensity]

This will leave you a free point when you hit 79. [Gale Winds] is a good option to boost your [Typhoon] and [Hurricane] damage a bit.

Level 80

Congratulations! You’ve hit level 80! At this point you will want to look at the raiding or PVP guides, depending on what you wish to do, for suggestions/advice on where to go from here. If you wish to continue grinding at level 80 for quest gold, here is the talent build I suggest. It picks up the last point in [Gale Winds], and gives you the [Glyph of Starfall], will reduce [Starfall] from a 90 second cooldown to 60 second, and allow you to grind faster.
