From the World of Warcraft blog:
While we aren’t always able to provide advance warning when an ability changes, there’s still some time before this change goes into effect, and we wanted to offer affected players a chance to plan their strategies appropriately in the meantime.
The following changes are currently planned for retuning the Druid talent, Heart of the Wild:
The spell damage bonus that Heart of the Wild provides to Feral and Guardian Druids will soon be reduced from +500% to +320%.The agility bonus that Heart of the Wild provides to Balance, Restoration, and Guardian Druids in Cat Form will soon be changed to +110%. It was previously +50% for Guardian Druids, and +200% for Balance and Restoration Druids.
Currently, the change is expected to go into effect during next Tuesday’s maintenance.
Goodbye, Moonkat, it was fun while it lasted!
A lot of you probably got excited (as I did) when I first saw the patch notes for 5.1 — more moonkin buffs! There actually are not additional buffs, but a reflection of hotfixes that were applied way back on September 20th.
There were a few small changes that don’t look to be part of a hotfix, however, including a nerf/buff to Solar Beam as well as a change to Symbiosis:
- Solar Beam now lasts for 8 sec.
- Glyph of Solar Beam now increases the radius by 100% instead of the duration by 5 seconds.
- Symbiosis is now a two second cast.
The symbiosis change is welcome, as I’m sure all of you have been as frustrated as I am about placing it on raid/party members. The solar beam “nerf” I think will actually be welcomed. It’s rare you get someone stuck in a solar beam for the entirety of 10 (let alone 15) seconds, but now giving a double radius will make it more useful.
If you haven’t noticed, Windsong now properly procs off DoTs, which should give you about a 5x higher uptime on Windsong. Enjoy!
This is about a month late, but I figured I’d post it anyways.
I started blogging during September of 2009. ToGC days of Wrath. I know my activity has gone up and down over the last few years as real life tends to claim me, but thanks to everyone who’s been along for the ride!
If I was crafty with images I’d make a pretty 3rd Anniversary feat of strength logo.
I usually post this much earlier after a major content patch or expansion, but I’ve been investing a lot of time in the game trying to gear and rep up. I also wanted to get a good feel for everything before I posted my opinions.
Eclipse damage disparity
Whether you’re attempting to single target or AoE, there’s a huge disparity in our DPS. Wrath and Astral Storm have been nerfed to give a ‘flavor’ to each Eclipse. Lunar Eclipse is much stronger for direct damage and Solar is much stronger for AoE. I don’t like it. Eclipse/Astral Communion management now becomes an integral part of min/max. I would be much happier of Starfire and Hurricane were nerfed and Wrath and Astral Storm buffed.
Burst versus Sustain
Due to our two (or three, depending on your talents) cooldowns, balance druids are excellent at burst DPS in Mists. The problem lies with sustain. We’re like a charging stallion out of the gate, but by mid-field, we’ve slowed to a trot. With the lack of an execute (and the fact that most other classes now have some sort of execute), other classes are quick to catch up to us.
Lack of talent variety
One of the attractive things to this new talent system was the supposed lack of talent variety. While we may see this a bit with our level 90 talents, it really isn’t true in level 60. Incarnation hands down beats the rest. Force of Nature is an absolute joke that scales horribly, and hasn’t been addressed, since, well, when it was first introduced.
Forced Hybridization for top DPS?
I’ve never been a fan of all three level 90 talents involving some sort of hybridization. That being said, the hybrid-portion of HotW and Nature’s Vigil can largely be ignored (unless you really want to mooncat). Many sims, however, are showing Dream of Cenarius to be the top talent once we get to high haste levels at the end of this tier. I do not want to be forced to throw healing touches just to min/max my DPS. This talent needs a complete rework. We need a throughput-only level 90 talent.
All-in-all, I’m happy with Mists. It’s probably one of the most enjoyable expansion launches for me so far. Every expansion, Moonkin are making great strides to really be on par with non-hybrid classes, however I am starting to wonder if we’ll ever hit equalization before World of Warcraft is replaced by Titan.
Sound off, what are your thoughts about Mists?
At the start of Mists week two, the Sha of Anger now drops an item called [Claw of Anger] that starts the quest ‘Remnants of Anger‘. The claw is lootable by everyone who killed the Sha and rewards boots based on your spec, with the balance boots being: [Crushing Treads of Anger]. Make sure to go out and kill Sha today!
Hotfixes were released today, and a few small things were fixed. One thing that was substantially nerfed was symbiosis, which no longer grants tanks an additional cooldown.
While this means you’re no longer pigeonholed into giving a tank a cooldown, there’s also very little to no benefit in a PvE environment from symbiosis.
- The area of effect damage from Nature’s Vigil will no longer hit stealthed targets.
- Fixed an issue with Incarnation that could allow flight without using Flight Form.
- Dream of Cenarius now correctly increases the healing from Cenarion Ward by 30% instead of 70%.
- Starsurge casts that trigger an Eclipse now deal the correct amount of damage.
- Symbiosis has been changed, and now grants the following abilities:
- Protection warriors – Stampeding Shout
- Blood death knights – Wild Mushroom: Plague Protection
- Protection paladins – Wrath
- Brewmaster monks – Bear Hug
In my opinion symbiosis has now been relegated to mostly a PvP talent.
I know I haven’t posted much about Mists yet. Been busy digging in and gearing up to raid, rep up, etc. I will have a post coming shortly about my first opinions and what I think is great, as well as what I think needs to be improved.
In the mean time, this was hugely needed, and I’m glad they finally implemented it.
We’ve just applied a hotfix that removes the faction requirements for Justice gear.
Shado-Pan and August Celestial factions will no longer require Golden Lotus faction to purchase this gear. This will allow players who have reached level 90 to have additional sources of item level (ilevel) 450 gear to progress into the Dungeon Finder Heroic dungeons more readily.
Players who are looking to purchase this gear should seek out the following vendors:
Shado-Pan – Rushin the Fox in Shado-Pan GarrisonAll – Commander Lo Ping in Niuzao Temple
Vale of Eternal Blossoms:
August Celestials – Sage Lotusbloom or Sage Whiteheart in the Horde and Alliance Shrines Golden Lotus – Jaluu the Generous in front of Mogu’shan Palace
Klaxxi – Ambersmith Zikk in Klaxxivess
