Beta Build 15640: Blizzard is still clueless

Another beta patch is being pushed, and it’s still inherently obvious that Blizzard has no clue what to do with talent trees.  MMO-Champion is reporting some interesting base damage increases across the board.

Spell changes:

  • Starfall base damage has been increased by 20%. Now scales from 34% of Spell Power, up from 31.2%.
  • Starfire Now scales from 169.4% of Spell Power, up from 155.3%
  • Moonfire  DoT duration reduced to 12 seconds. Now scales from 24.8% of Spell Power, up from 22.7%.
  • Wrath Now scales from 121% of Spell Power, up from 110%.

Talent changes:

Our DoTs have been decreased considerably as the beta rolls on.  Initially, from the talent removal of the personal damage boosts of Balance of Power, Master Shapeshifter, and Earth and Moon, to removing the improved ‘Insect Swarm’.  Our direct nukes had damage increased to counter it, but DoTs did not.  Now they’re reduced from 18 seconds to 12 seconds.  Nerfing it just to re-introduce it via the 4 piece bonus seems a bit cheesy to me.

The slight increase in coefficients is nice, but I’m still not happy overall via the DoT change.

Force of Nature trees still do the same damage, so they were nerfed, from a 33% (60/180) uptime to a 25% (15/60) uptime.

As for the changes to Dream of Cenarius and Heart of the Wild, I’m bothered that Blizzard is making small tweaks to completely failed talent options, instead of a complete re-work.

Needless to say, I’m a bit hot under the feathers right now.  What about you?

    over react much? nothing was nerfed.

    Allthe damage spells were given roughly a 20% buff, altho wrath may have gotten slightly more.

    Lightning Bolt and Wrath are down to 1.5 sec casts as well, i can only assume they have engineered some solution to the GCD and haste clipping…but that remains to be seen.

    Furthermore, Force of Nature has had its cooldown dropped from 3 mins to 1 min that is why it’s 15 secs, altho i think it should be 20 secs.

    Nothing really changed except for a 20% damage buff, but i noticed all dps casters got a damage buff. most melee specs did not though. Warrior damage got nerfed

      Starfire was not buffed. Wrath may have been slightly buffed, although it had a base damage nerf. Moonfire’s direct damage was buffed, but that’s not where the damage lies. Having to recast it every 12 seconds now instead of 18 seconds is a huge nerf. The Starfall buff looks nice, but I don’t actually see the 20% reflected in the tooltip. I’m not sure where they’re getting the numbers from.

      That’s still going to be a net DPS loss for us. DoT damage is a large chunk of our damage in Pandaria.

    Looks like it was buffed. Wrath being reduced to a 1.5s cast is odd, I doubt they’d do it without a good reason (it was purposefully changed in Cata for clipping after all).

    The Moonfire/Sunfire duration change is odd but must be for a reason (see EJ’s initial lookey at AoE DPET – with the hurricane buff, seems their direction was to nip CA multidotting in the bud).

    Most interesting thing is the apparent reversal of SotF/Incarn/FoN ranking (not sure why Incarnation would change places since nothing changed, but apparently FoN is coming out of top now). We’ll have to see if this actually pans out (no funny business with FoN like last time and their cast damage being halved).

      Oops. I ignored the section under ‘Balance’ changes. Not sure why they put half the balance abilities under baseline the other half under balance. You’re right, Starfire is buffed.

    From MMO- Moonfire DoT base damage has been reduced by 33%. Now scales from 24.8% of Spell Power, up from 22.7%. Now deals damage over 12 seconds instead of 18 seconds.

    Base, not direct.

    The rest of the changes, aside from the shorter time on MF, are pretty straight up buffs.

    DoT base damage wasn’t nerfed. It was adjusted for the shorter duration.

    I am not sure the coefficient buffs will counter the DoT nerf.

    9looks like mmo champion screwed up big time.. there were no 20% buffs. but there were no nerfs either, the moonfire dot damage was adjusted because its duration was shorter.

    Question is , does Monk Symbiosis now in the game?

    can anyone check? i’m not level 87 yet on beta

    starfall, wrath, starfire did get damage bonus boosts too,btw… but no massive caster buff.

    I’ve updated my Symbiosis Chart (located to the right under Pages in the menu) for Monk Symbiosis.

    The Moonfire duration becoming shorter is a nerf in itself. It now will not allow you to put up both DoTs, as one falls off before you can put up the opposite one. Huge nerf.
