4.2 PTR Notes : Holy Owl

Had to share this with you guys. Here’s what’s new with Moonkin in next patch :

Many crowd control abilities no longer cause creatures to attack players when they are cast. The creature will not attack the player when the crowd control wears off, and nearby creatures will not become hostile to the player either. However, if a visible player gets too close to the target creature, the creature will remember and attack the player when the crowd control effect wears off. Entangling Roots and the equivalent spell triggered by Nature’s Grasp no longer deal damage.
Innervate now grants an ally target 5% of his or her maximum mana over 10 seconds, but still grants 20% of the druid’s maximum mana over 10 seconds when self-cast.

Insect Swarm now generates 8 Lunar Energy for druids with Eclipse.

Moonfire now generates 8 Solar Power for druids with Eclipse.
Sunfire now generates 8 Lunar Energy for druids with Eclipse.

Glyph of Innervate now causes the druid to gain 10% of his or her maximum mana over 10 seconds when Innervate is used on a friendly target, in addition to Innervate’s base effect.

Allright so basicaly a buff to our damage, but a nerf to our utility. The CC change is pretty sweet, you don’t have to be scared of slow-on-taunt tanks anymore. Innervate : Really? 0.5% mana per second? I know I’m not wasting this 3min cooldown for another guy’s  500 mana! Hello new glyph choice. Monsoon or Focus, probably. I believe the Solar power changes are on apply only, which means you don’t get 8 power each tick (that would be awesome though), but hey, it does accelerate our transitions a bit. I believe that’s how the spell worked in beta (correct me if i’m wrong).

Any thoughts on this guys? How have you been performing in ZA and ZG with your druids? I find myself on top of dps alot of times. Getting those new epics help out too. Haven’t stepped in any raid so far. Guild pretty much dead. Server pretty much dead. Just enjoying the moonkin life.

    First off, what the hell have you been up to??? Two months without a post makes me sad seeing as you provided frequent cataclysm updates over the summer pre-release…

    Now about the post…
    -Innervate glyph, this glyph should already be swapping out for focus on fights such as nefarian, magmaw(heroic), and a few others… mana should not be an issue

    -Eclipse effects on dots, this has me thinking about a lot of negative and positives… The faster transition as a whole means more up time on natures grace, but the idea of wasting precious time while in eclipse on dots kinda seems bad, especially when considering this could mean one less eclipsed nuke.

    Obviously we’ll just have to wait, but I suppose I will just have to look forward to working on my legendary staff!!!

    Take another look at the patch notes: “with Eclipse.”

    It will only push you OUT of eclipse. NOT in.

    Well, about the Energy generated by dots (or its cast only), is only because of PvP, again.
    I dont PvP with my moonkin, but i see a lot of them standing in Solar Eclipse and spamming Sunfire/IS.
    Its obvious. Blizz dont like people cheating their class, so this change is to force them to play like blizz want.
    And i dont think this will increase dps, because its only apply when Eclipsed.

    Sunfyre, I think the eclipse changes are nerfs. Read the description carefully: they only affect a druid who is in the eclipse state already. This means that the dot casts don’t help us get to a new eclipse. This change reduces the number of spells we can cast while in eclipse if we cast the dots. This change also severely nerfs aoe dot spam – you won’t be able to moonfire/insect swarm spam while staying in eclipse he entire time. Given the worthless nature of hurricane, this means that we will not very effective in aoe situations.

    I feel this is a pretty significant nerf; no more happy sunfire spamming during movement phases.

    You guys are totaly right, I read the note way too fast. The only when eclipsed part makes it a real punch in the beak, for all you mentionned : the aoe situation in eclipse (we’ll still be able to stand in solar eclipse, only we’ll have to rotate Shroomboom/Hurricane) and the PVP reason (although I don’t understand why they keep nerfing moonkins in pvp. Are we that much of a threat?)
    Thank you for your reactions, and P.S. Balourd (me) posted this, as Sunfyre is pretty busy with real life, and hasn’t been playing WOW so much lately. I’m glad to keep you entertained as often as I can in his stead!
    @xorkrik : about Glyph of Innervate, you’re right, I just enjoy giving mana to my healers on every cooldown. I’ll just stop doing that now cause it’ll be a worthless gift haha.

    Wow, this site hasn’t been alive for a while :P

    The change basicly changes a huge part of our gameplay, say bb to dotting up ads of fights such as maloriak, it’ll be more like WM-hurricane-WM-hurricane -.-

    Owls single target static dps is not good, our AoE could compete, but now they take away that aswell. Why? Because of pvp! /facepalm

    Also, the new setbonuses are out:

    Balance 2 Pieces – You have a chance to summon a Burning Treant to assist you in battle for 15 sec when you cast Wrath or Starfire.

    Balance 4 Pieces – While not in an Eclipse state, your Wrath generates 3 additional Lunar Energy and your Starfire generates 5 additional Solar Energy.

    So, before having 4set, we’ll be loosing quite some dps. After, it’ll pretty much even out. I still am not sure about these changes, seeing as how it is a nerf, and a quite big change.

    @Xorkrik They clarified that one a little… newer notes now say “for balance druids”, i.e. they meant if you have an eclipse bar, they will generate power.

    Which is sort of pointless to tell most players, though it makes sense from their point of view.

    So whether you’re in Eclipse state or not, the dots will generate power. Which will still suck for our AOE but will make transitions faster. I guess it is sort of a good thing.

    I’m just sharing because it made me go ARGH and yet laugh at the same time. I was on my ele shammy last night running ZG along with a balance druid. He was pulled 13k+ dps by spamming sunfire and insect swarm. He would throw starfire for groups and treants on occassion. He literally never left solar eclipse. FML. He was a good guy…Rahsta? on Ysera – you bugger! Enjoy it while you can! :)
