PTR 4.0.6 Patch Notes
by Sunfyre on Jan.09, 2011, under General
Sorry I’m a little late on this, but I just got back on dry land from the Caribbean cruise.
There’s a new PTR released, and with it some exciting Balance changes:
- Barkskin is no longer dispellable.
- The Shooting Stars buff duration has been increased to 12 seconds, up from 8 seconds.
- Wild Mushroom is now instant cast, down from 0.5 seconds. In addition, the radius of detonation has been increased to 6 yards, up from 3, and damage done increased by 15%.
- Glyph of Wrath now increases damage done by Wrath by 10% and no longer requires Insect Swarm on the target.
All exciting changes. I’m glad to see the Glyph change, as now Wrath damage won’t fall off for the last 2-3 casts. The Wild Mushroom changes were definitely needed. Hopefully this will be enough. The shooting stars buff duration change is nice as it gives us a little more flexibility in the spell (especially in PVP when we were eating a charge sitting in a CC).
Opinions?

I personally were thrilled to read about these changes. The mushroom changes makes us a whole lot more viable for aoe dependant fights such as magmaw, cho’gall and onwards.
I can’t help but wonder though, as I saw in one of the previous notes that there was meant to be a change to the “balance of power” talent. Wich would increase the hit gain from spirit by additional 50/100 %
Seeing as how our tier is built up, that might have come in handy.
Any thoughts on this?

It’s only a tool tip clarification. Hybrids gain hit from bonus spirit only, not base spirit. Shadow priest and ele shaman tool tips always stated this but ours was less clear.

These changes again fix nothing for Moonkin PvP.
- The delay on the mushroom slow will still make them useless for PvP.
- No one ever tries to dispel barkskin from a Moonkin because we will die in 5 seconds anyway.
- If you haven’t used Shooting Stars within 8 seconds in PvP you are doing something wrong.
Our defensive, dps and healing issues in PvP still aren’t addressed.
I’m farming feral PvP gear as I’ve had enough with Blizzards incompetency or lack of interest to balance the Balance druids.

Im on the same boat with the PvP. Im going Feral.
As for the changes on a PvE lvl… AWSOME! Hopefully they make it to live, especially the Glyph. 10% dmg buff at all times? Yes, please.
I will be using Wild Mushroom way more now for sure. Cant wait to test em out with Magmaw.

Ahh I see, misread from my part then. Thanks for clarifying! (:

From the latest patch notes:
“Total Eclipse now increases bonus damage from Eclipse by 16%, up from 12%. Each point of Mastery now increases the bonus by an additional 2%, up from 1.5%.”
Can we safely assume this is a HUGE boost?

Hopefully we can get some math on the eclipse changes. Mushrooms are going to be pretty baller, the damage in a solar eclipse is going to be interesting to see. I wonder if in a multiple target fight whether prioritizing mushrooms > wrath is going to happen.
Whatever the case I am very pleased about the mushroom changes, the removal of splash damage from starfall and hurricane being horrendous has left us in a rough spot for AE.
Keep up the sexy blog sun.

So Sunfyre, I was wondering if in 4.0.6 are we, as boomkins, going to stop using glyph of starsurge for wrath? Seeing as ,I believe you stated, starfall is a 5% increase and wrath would be a 10% increase?

I’ve always used Wrath post Cataclysm.
