Just say “NO!” to Spell Queuing!

by on Nov.16, 2010, under Cataclysm, General

A quieter addition to 4.0.3 was the ability to customize your “lag tolerance”.  For casters, this allows you to override the annoying spell queuing that was included in 4.0.1.  To change this, go into the “Combat” section of your Interface tab, check “Custom Lag Tolerance”, and set it to 0ms.

Isn’t this a dps loss? I mean, the idea is that you need to queue a spell so that you don’t have gaps inbetween your spells due to lag. Even if you have decent to low latency like 100ms, losing 100ms of casting time every cast adds up fast. I plan on turning mine down a bit, but the optimal amount will be exactly how much lag you have, not 0.
Being able to control spell choice as long as you can = good.
Having gaps between spells = bad.

Doesn’t Quartz do the same w/o queueing? This is borderline annoying. It was the first thing to go yesterday.

by default it comes with 0ms. Or atleast mine did. My lag is about 130-140ms depending on server usage, so i set mine at 130ms. Didn’t really noticed much difference except that now i dont’ have the problem Sunfyre stated, “not being able to get Starsurge off because you’re 3 Wraths deep is a DPS loss.” This happened to me a lot before this lag thing, and now i dont’ have this problem.

Thanks for the tip. I’m really happy to get rid of this spell queuing system.
